The Drake Crossing - Logbooks - ANTARCTICA
6 March

Spirits not damped by 4 – 2 loss

Our arrival in Puerto Williams was made with high spirits and great anticipation mainly because

  • We had had a fine fill of ‘Centollas’ (king crabs) the night before.
  • We had an opportunity to train up the football team for our expected challenge against the Puerto Williams Navy Team
  • We were only one day away from end of the expedition.

Our team was as follows

Penguin - chosen for his size and constant squawking - Clayton Conservani
Macarrao - This means large spaghetti in Portuguese - Roberto Pandidani
Mowgli - Well known for his apelike acrobatics – Igor Bely
Papito - Of ex Mafia fame, now turned chef – Betao Dias
Ze Bundina - Referring to my butt on naked visits to the head - Duncan Ross
Moyses – Coach well know for evening up the score! Moyses Plusinieck

I won’t elaborate too much on the match – we fought bravely and at 2 all, we called in our secret weapon hoping for an added boost. This we received in the form of an own goal and we ended up losing 4 – 2. It was great run after having being cooped up in boat for so long !
